Andrex Eco Climate Week Challenge – UPDATE

We were recently set an Eco Challenge by Andrex to live a greener, eco friendly lifestyle. So from the 4th – 10th of March (Climate Week) we have been changing the way we live and trying to be greener as a family.
We were sent some items to help with the challenge, we received:
  • A Canvas Bag (I love this)
  • A 4 pack of Andrex Eco Toilet Paper
  • A Water Hippo
  • Bamboo Socks
  • Oliver Heath’s Eco Chic Book
  • A Shower Timer
  • A Recycling Bin
At the start of the week we decided that we would set ourselves 3 main challenges to complete which would help us become a more eco friendly family.

The first thing we decided to do was to use the Andrex Eco Toilet Paper.

The Andrex Eco Toilet Paper is sustainable toilet tissue made from a completely new and innovative combination of sustainably sourced fibres; 90% recycled fibre and 10% natural bamboo. The packaging is also 100% recycled and is fully FSC certified.
It can be difficult when you decide to try to live a greener lifestyle, where do you start? Well starting by changing to Andrex Eco Toilet Paper would be a very good place. When we received our toilet roll I have to say I was surprised. I expect it to be an off white colour and to be quite thin and rough. Thankfully I was very pleasantly surprised! Not only is the toilet paper white and thick it is super soft too. I would highly recommend the toilet roll, it delivers the same high quality that you would expect from Andrex.
The second thing we decided to do was to use the Andrex Canvas Bag instead of using plastic bags.
This is something that is easy for most of us to do! At most major supermarkets they now have bags for life which are re-usable bags that you can use for your shopping.
I have found the canvas bag to be much better than using plastic bags, not only does it look nicer, it’s easier to carry, it holds more and it also helps save the planet. If you are interested in living a greener lifestyle I would highly recommend moving away from plastic bags and using re-usable bags.

The third thing we did was to fit the Water Hippo that we received.
Did you know that most toilets don’t need to use a full cistern to flush effectively?  Neither did I until we received the Water Hippo. The Water Hippo is a low cost water saving device which will help you save 2-3 litres of water per flush. The Water Hippo was very easy to fit taking around 5 minutes. Knowing that we are saving 2-3 litres of water per flush is great and from something that is low in costs and easy to fit it’s definitely a winner in our house!
During the week we have also been using the shower timer to keep our showers to a reasonable time and save water. It is incredible just how much water is used when having a shower. I would usually spend around 10-15 minutes in the shower prior to using the shower timer, I am now spending roughly 3-4 minutes in the shower and saving a lot of water!
We have really enjoyed taking the Eco Challenge, it has really opened our eyes to the little things we can do to make a big difference and live a greener more eco friendly lifestyle.

I literally have a cupboard FULL of plastic bags, and yet I almost always end up forgetting to take them shopping with me. I need some sort of system!

I have to say I have a memory like a sieve and usually need reminding to take them too!

The canvas bag is a great idea. I now have loads of them and keep them under the pram in the basket for when we go shopping.

That’s a really good idea to keep them with you all the time.
