Christmas is about the whole family and for me that includes the 4 legged furry kind. Pets are a big part of family life in the UK so I have put together a selection of gift ideas for our four legged friends, from fun to practical and big to small there’s something that would make the perfect gift for your furry feline or perfect pooch.
If you have a cat or cats who like to scratch, why not buy them a scratching post which will give them somewhere to scratch and also save your furniture. There’s a fantastic range of scratching posts available at Rosewood, I love the posts with toys attached as it encourages cats to use it and also has an element of fun for them. If you’re unsure which one to choose how about the Sage scratcher, it’s a seagrass post with silvervine animal toys, a wooden base and catnip to entice your cat to use the post. The post is neutral in colour so will fit into any colour scheme and room.
Like humans, our pets enjoy a treat every now and again so why not buy them a packet or two of the yummy (according to my cat Rua) Leaps & Bounds treats. There’s a selection of flavours including duck, chicken, fish and duck liver bites. There’s also a range of Leap & Bound dog treats available too. Whether you’re looking for a selection of food, treats, bowls, bedding or toys Rosewood has a fantastic selection of products available.
Dogs can be notoriously greedy (our two definitely were), they can gulp down their food which is bad for their health, it can lead to bloat, indigestion and canine obesity. Thankfully there’s a new bowl which can help dogs eat slowly and enjoy their food, the clever A–Maze-In-A–Bowl. The bowl was designed by vet Paul Proctor as a result of growing concern that dogs presenting at the surgery were suffering from digestion issues and being overweight. The bowl is made from bamboo fibre and dogs have to work their food around the maze to get to it. The bowl is also non slip and strong enough to withstand interest from inquisitive dogs.
How cute is this gorgeous Teepee! This is the perfect gift if you have a dog or a cat who likes to find a quiet spot to sleep. The Teepee will give them somewhere quiet to sleep where they feel safe and secure. The design is also fantastic and the black and white is on trend right now. It is a little pricey at £50 but it’s a hand made item and should last for a good few years.
Cat toys have advanced a lot over the last couple of years. A few years ago you would be limited to a fluffy mouse, balls or a toy dangler. Now there’s a huge selection of toys available to keep them amused and active. One of the top companies when it comes to popular cat toys is Catit who have a superb range of interactive toys available. I have included the Senses Super Roller Circuit in the gift guides as it’s one of the most popular choices and cats love it. Cats will love chasing the illuminated ball around the circuit as it whizzes past, they will be able to try and stop the ball in it’s tracks by catching it through one of the openings in the track. A fast paced, fun game that will keep them entertained for hours. Other items from the Catit Senses range include the Catit Senses Food Maze, Catit Senses Grass Garden and Catit Senses Massage Centre.
Along with cat toys, dog toys have come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. Now there’s a great selection of games for your dogs. In today’s guide I have included the Trixie Dog Activity Turn Around, although it might look like a child’s science kit it is in fact a dog toy that will get your dog working for their treats. The aim of the game is for your pet to turn over the beakers with their paw or nose to release the treat. The set comes with two different lids, one with a large opening for beginners, then a smaller lid opening for when your dog has mastered the first one. The game is great for challenging your dog and keeping them entertained, they will love playing with it and getting their reward at the end.
