When the Recordable Artwork from Hallmark arrived I was impressed with the packaging. It is well designed, informative and colourful. You can clearly see that everything you need is in the box and you can even listen to a helpful recorded message by pressing the Try Me button.
In the box you get a canvas which is the perfect size for little ones, it has a black plastic frame around it. There are 6 washable paints and a paint brush. Everything you will need to design and complete your Recordable Artwork.
I was impressed by how colourful the paints are as usually when you get paints in a set they are dull and of poor quality. The paint we got with the Recordable Artwork was of a good consistency and colourful so the picture came out really well when dry and the colours stayed bright.
When painting the canvas can be taken out of the frame if preferred. We chose to keep ours inside the frame so none of the picture would be cut off after putting it back in place. Maxx got a lot of paint on the frame but it wipes of easily with water and a cloth.
Maxx really enjoys painting so I knew this would be a big hit with him. I was however a little bit worried about how the picture would turn out as when Maxx paints he usually picks a colour and paints it across the paper then chooses another colour and does the same until he has used all the colours. This usually results in a brown picture as all the colours have merged together. I wanted to avoid this so I decided to only put a small amount of paint on his brush at a time and rinse off the brush after each use.
I asked him what he was going to paint and he said a monster. I am so impressed with his picture and the fact that he did it by himself. It is going to be a special present for his Nannie for Christmas and he’s so excited to give it to her. He’s not very good at keeping secrets bless him so his Nannie will probably find out about her present but she won’t get to see it until Christmas day.
Recording the message is really easy. Simply open the battery compartment at the back of the frame (You will need a small star screwdriver) then move the switch from lock to unlock, this allows you to record your message. Press and hold the record button until you hear a beep, after the beep record your message then release the record button when finished. To make sure your message won’t accidentally be erased move the switch back to the lock position.
I was really impressed with the recording function the message is very loud and clear when played back. You can also record a new message as many times as you want so there is no need to worry if you make a mistake. The recording can be a maximum of 40 seconds which I think plenty of time for a message.
I prompted Maxx on what to say in the recording although it did take us 10 minutes and lots of laughing to get it right. I explained after the beep he should start talking and he got confused and said beep after the beep which he thought was hilarious! You really can have a lot of fun with this.
We both love the Recordable Artwork and will be recommending it to family and friends for that unique gift this Christmas. The gift is something that will be cherished for years to come, a really lovely keepsake.
