Overnight Oats – A Healthy Breakfast

Overnight OoatsIt looks lovely doesn’t it? It tastes lovely too!

I don’t often eat breakfast and it’s such a bad habit as by mid morning I’m usually hungry and looking for something sweet. Recently I have taken the decision to get serious about getting healthy and this includes a diet overhaul.

I’m a fussy eater so finding something I like is usually troublesome but I recently came across a recipe which looked really interesting and used ingredients I like and that can be changed to suit my taste that day. The breakfast is commonly known as overnight oats, it’s so simple to make and only requires 3 ingredients.

You can make overnight oats in a bowl, glass jar, wine glass.. whatever you have to hand really. I bought the jar I put my overnight oats in from Cargo for Β£3.50 which I though was a bargain.

Ingredients

35g Porridge oats
Yoghurt of your choice (the healthier the better!)
Fruit of your choice (frozen or fresh)

Recipe (if you can call it that, ha ha)

Firstly I layered some fruit into the bottom of the jar, I then added a layer of porridge and then a layer of yoghurt. I repeated those steps for a second time and voila! Overnight oats, I told you it was easy. I put a handful of fruit on top, closed the lid and put it in the fridge until the morning.

You don’t have to layer the ingredients it works perfectly if you just put everything in and you can give it a good stir if you like too, you can’t really go wrong!

There are other variations to the recipe, some people add milk to the recipe whilst others soak their oats before putting them in. The great thing is it’s easy to make doesn’t require a lot of ingredients and as long as you choose carefully it’s a healthy breakfast that will see you through to the afternoon.

I really enjoyed the overnight oats and am looking forward to making them again using different fruits and maybe some nuts too. The yoghurt I used was quite sour so I will be looking for an alternative yoghurt, I might choose a low fat, low sugar flavoured one next time.

Enjoy!

This looks great. I’m not a fan of cooked porridge but I reckon I could eat the oats like that. Fruit and yogurt are my main breakfast foods and the oats will help keep me fuller for longer πŸ™‚
