December’s Degustabox was labelled Healthy New Year and it had a lot of delicious and healthy treats inside. There were several products I loved from this months box, the Hip Pop crisps were delicious, the Mango & Pineapple bars were lovely and I found out I prefer whole wheat pasta thanks to the Barilla products. All in all it was a good box with a great variety of both meal and snack products, some I had tried before and quite a few were new to me. You can find out more about each product below.
Crisps are one of my weaknesses. I’m definitely more of a savoury person and love trying new crisps products so this was the first item I tried. The great thing about Hip Pops is the fact they are healthier when compared to similar fried or baked snacks. They typically contain 50% less fat than standard potato crisps but still all the great flavour. They are available in a choice of 6 flavours, 4 of which are gluten free! Hip Pops have less than 11% fat in each packet and are low in saturates, what’s not to love! I really enjoyed trying these and it’s definitely something I would pick up again, plenty of flavour, crunch and healthier too! They are a little pricey at £1 per packet but for a healthier alternative they are a good choice.
I usually have a packet of breakfast bars in the cupboard as they’re great for grabbing on the go if you haven’t got time to prepare breakfast. Fabulous Bakers have just released a new flavour in their snack bars range, Mango & Pineapple. The delicious snack bars are made with all natural, honest ingredients. The bars contain no nasties, or added sugar. They are packed with real fruit, slow release energy oats and they’re high in fibre. This all means these delicious bars not only taste great but they will keep you feeling full for longer too.
This dairy free original is a unique alternative to cow’s milk. It is made with freshly pressed coconut milk and contains fewer calories than skimmed milk, contains 0% cholesterol and is 100% allergen free. The perfect alternative for those who are allergic to dairy or who would like a healthier milk alternative.
Water is something I have been drinking more of recently so when I saw the Nuva products in this month’s box I was intrigued to see what they were like. Nuva uses spring water and a kiss of natural extracts and flavours with no sugar or sweeteners to create a thirst quenching bottle of water. Perfect for grabbing on the go for after workouts and anything in between. I really enjoyed the products, especially the Cucumber & Mint flavour.
If you find yourself needing some energy then the Compete Energy bites might be what you’re looking for. The tasty bites are low calorie chocolate infused caffeine bites. Each bite equals a large coffee, so if you don’t have time for your morning drink this is a great alternative. The Energy Bites provide an instant boost to help improve alertness, endurance and physical energy.
Red Square Toffee Mini
Have you ever tried Toffee Vodka? This mini is made with 7 times distilled and 100% pure Vodka. It’s perfect for sharing, mixing, and making delicious drinks that everyone will enjoy.
A ginger beer which focuses on the unique attributes of the original Ginger Beer but which offers a lighter drink that you can enjoy for longer. Perfect straight from the fridge or paired with a spirit to create a cocktail.
Barilla was this month’s product of the month and it’s a great choice. I was impressed with both products. Firstly the Mediterranean Vegetables sauce is a very tasty combination of authentic Italian tomatoes, ripe courgettes, plump aubergine and sweet peppers. It tastes delicious and has no added preservatives.
The second item I received from Barilla was the Whole-Wheat Fusilli and it’s delicious. I have always assumed (wrongly) that whole-wheat products wouldn’t taste as good but boy was I wrong. I love the taste, the texture and the fact it’s better for me too. One serving of Barilla whole wheat pasta gives you 20% of your daily fibre needs so it really is a great alternative.
Nothing But, are healthy freeze dried fruit and vegetable snacks. Each packet is under 80 calories and there’s no added anything! What’s more, one packet is equal to 1 of your 5 a day! As I’m trying to change the habits of a lifetime and am making a conscious effort to try healthier snacks I did give these a go. I enjoyed them but did find them very sweet even though there’s nothing added.
If you’re looking for a healthy breakfast cereal how about Betavivo. The crispy oat heart cereal is proven to lower cholesterol and blood glucose. A daily serving of Betavivo provides the required 3g of beta-glucan from oats needed to reduce your blood cholesterol as well as helping to reduce the amount of blood glucose your body produces.
