Saving Time & Money with a Slow Cooker

We have recently been trying to make more of an effort to cook different meals and to cook them from scratch as much as possible. We have been doing this using our slow cooker and so far it’s going really well.

We got our slow cooker when our oven broke as the landlords took over 3 weeks to replace it and we got tired of eating microwave meals. We used it a handful of times and it has sat in the cupboard for months since even venturing into the attic for a period. However I was recently introduced to the world of slow cooking where you can cook a whole hist of different meals.

I wrongly thought you were limited to what you could cook in a slow cooker however I have since found you really can cook a whole host of different meals. You can even cook puddings in the slow cooker from cookies to self saucing sponge puddings – which are absolutely delicious I might add.

Having a slow cooker makes life easier for a lot of people as you can put everything in the slow cooker in the morning set the temperature and leave it to cook until the evening then simply dish up and enjoy. There’s no more slaving over a hot stove for hours and not only do you end up with delicious home cooked meal you can save money too!

The slow cooker is also cheaper to run than an oven, on average a slow cooker uses around the same amount of energy as a light bulb and a traditional electric oven can use almost three times as much energy as a slow cooker. So if you have a slow cooker sitting in the cupboard get it out and start using it, it saves you time, money and you can cook a huge range of delicious meals in it.

Here are some meal suggestions for your to try in your slow cooker;

  • Hunters BBQ chicken
  • Roast chicken
  • Sausage casserole
  • Chilli
  • Pulled Pork
  • Self saucing cake (YUM!)

I would love more recipes to try in the slow cooker so if you have a tried and tested recipe I would love to hear it.

    Hi I love my slow cooker, the meat becomes ever so tender in a slow cooker. I have yet to make a cake in it, I should try!

    We have a slow cooker for our camping trips….and I think my slow cooker may still be sitting in the caravan cupboard from some autumn trips. Definitely need to get it back into the house!

    I’d love a slow cooker. Everyone in my Slimming World group swears by them and they cook loads of different meals in them. I’ll have to add one to my wishlist as it’s my birthday in July!

    I love my slow cooker, it’s so convenient. I tend to only cook meat joints and casseroles in it though so need to widen my options. Slow Cooker Queen (created by Chrissie who also writes Mediocre Mum) has tons of slow cooker recipes if you’re looking for any extra.
