Overcoming Post-Holiday Blues

Have you recently arrived home from a fantastic holiday? Are you feeling a bit down in the dumps? It’s not uncommon to feel that way, a recent survey of 1,000 Brits showed that half felt gloomy when they returned home after a holiday.

I think we can all relate to the post-holiday blues in one way or another. We work hard all year so when it comes to holidays it’s no surprise that we want to make the most of every second and enjoy it. We love nothing more than a relaxing week in the sun to recharge our batteries but returning home can be a knock to our happiness and cause post-holiday blues.

If the above sounds familiar don’t worry, there are ways you can get over the post-holiday blues, try out these 5 handy tips.

Take up a new hobby

If you find you have spare time after returning home from your holiday why not take up a new hobby or reconnect with something you loved doing from your past. Having a hobby will help you keep busy, get you out and about meeting new people and trying new things. Did you see some remarkable architecture on your last adventure? Why not pick up some books at the library to read about design and architecture then try to reproduce it at home! You could try Italian style terracotta shingles.

Make a holiday photo book

Sadly we can’t change the fact our holiday has to come to an end, but it doesn’t mean you can’t reminisce. Most of us take photographs, videos or even blog about our vacations so why not make a photo book or an online photo diary. Looking through your holiday photos will bring back happy memories and let you re-visit your holiday time and time again.

Explore new places

Getting out and visiting new places is a great way of getting over the holiday blues. Whether it’s visiting somewhere new in your local area or further afield, going somewhere new will give you something to look forward to and a change of surroundings is always nice. Going on day trips and exploring new places will help break up the days, weeks and months so you’re doing something different every now and again.

Get Back Into a Routine

Chances are when you’re on holiday your routine will be different to what it normally is. When you return home you might find it difficult to readjust to your old routine but getting back to normal as soon as possible will help the transition from holiday to work feel less daunting. Unpacking your suitcase when you return will also be helpful as you don’t want to be tripping over it for days.

Plan Your Next Holiday

Who doesn’t love daydreaming about their next holiday, looking at destinations and planning where to visit can be really uplifting for your mood. Planning your next holiday will be a happy distraction, it will give you something to focus on and get excited about. Why not buy a calendar and cross off the days until your next holiday, you’ll be surprised at how quickly it comes around.
