WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO LEAD A HEALTHIER LIFE?

The truth is, often it’s easier to be unhealthy than it is to be healthy. Unhealthy foods are cheaper to buy than healthy ones. Then, there’s the fact that there isn’t always enough time in the day to do the amount of exercise that you should. It’s much easier to hop in the car to the supermarket than walking there, isn’t it? The fact is, being unhealthy is easier than being healthy, and that’s all there is to it.

The good news is, however, that leading a healthy life doesn’t have to be a struggle. It’s just a case of getting into the habit of being healthier; that’s all.

Be more active each day

Being healthy might be 80% food and 20% exercise, but that doesn’t mean you should skip your daily workouts. Fitting a workout into a hectic schedule can sometimes seem impossible, but there’s always a way around it. When you can, use your gym. If you don’t have a gym membership, visit your local gym’s website and have a look at the cost of membership. Find a way to squeeze a workout session in each day – maybe getting up earlier could be the answer?

As well as joining a gym, aim to be more active in general. This means getting off the bus one stop earlier, walking to the shops instead of driving, and spend your weekends out and about. This could be going on bike rides, walking, or playing sport. Whatever you opt to do it doesn’t matter, it’s just a case of ensuring that you’re as active as possible.

Don’t buy food

I know, I know, it’s so easy to buy your lunch from the coffee shop down the road from your office. However, readymade foods are almost always packed full of tonnes of calories and fats that you don’t need to put into your body. Not to mention lots of preservatives and additives. Take flapjacks for instance, they’re packed full of sugar and fat. However, if you make them yourself, you can easily make them healthy. If you want a healthier body, it’s best to make your own food.

On the odd occasion it’s fine to go out for brunch or dinner, but for the most part, it’s best to make your own food. That way, you’re aware of everything that goes into it. Making your meals from scratch is much easier than you would think, it’s just a case of ensuring you have everything that you need in the cupboard.

Stick to water as your drink of choice

Smoothies might be in, but they’re seriously bad for you. The average smoothie that’s marketed as being healthy has more than five teaspoons of sugar in it. That’s a crazy amount of sugar for a healthy drink. Fizzy drinks are also packed full of sugar and empty calories – diet ones are better but still have lots of sweeteners in them. The healthiest drink to opt for is, of course, water.

If you find water a little dull, shall we say, then you need to find a way to make it more enjoyable. Not only is water calorie-free, but it’s also good for your skin, hair and nails. So drinking more of it can only be a good thing. A great option to make water more enjoyable is to infuse it with fresh fruit or to opt to drink soda water. Water doesn’t have to be dull; there are lots of ways you can jazz it up.

So there you have it, three things you can do to lead a healthier life. These changes may take time to have an impact on your health, but they’re changes that are definitely worth making.
