Do you want to update your home, give it the wow factor and a fresh look? Then look no further.. I have listed 5 DIY jobs that will give your home the wow factor. The good news is, you don’t have to be a DIY expert to update your home and give it a new look. I’m relatively new to the world of DIY and have recently moved into my own home. I have started off with small DIY jobs and am working my way up to the bigger jobs. I have been looking for ideas to give my home some personality and found a lot of easy DIY jobs that I can do myself to make it look amazing. I particularly love the idea of a picture wall in the living room, adding a backsplash in the kitchen and also adding a dimmer switch in the living room.
Update your switches and sockets
If you live in an older property and you’re switches and sockets are dated, why not spruce up your home by updating your switches and sockets. You’ll be surprised at how different a room can look simply by replacing a few sockets. If you want to add a touch of luxury why not install a dimmer switch, there’s nothing nicer than setting the mood with some lighting. The great thing about updating your sockets is the fact it’s relatively inexpensive. Working with electrics can be dangerous, only do this if you know what you’re doing, otherwise get a professional to do it.
Build a bespoke headboard
If your bedroom is lacking a focal point what better way to create the wow factor than with a unique headboard. You could make it out of wood, create a ceiling high headboard, have a colourful fabric headboard or have a personalised headboard with photos etc, the possibilities are endless. This DIY project can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it. There are thousands of examples and how to tutorials online to help you through the process.
Update old furniture
Chances are you have an old chair, table or chest of drawers that’s in need of updating. Maybe you have been meaning to revamp it for a while now? An easy way to add some wow factor to your home is to update an old item of furniture and create something completely unique to your style. It doesn’t have to be anything too difficult, why not varnish or paint the item, even adding new drawer handles to an old chest of drawers will give it a new lease of life.
Create a photo wall
Hanging photos is one of the easiest DIY jobs and something even us beginners can do. A photo wall can create a real focal point in a room and it doesn’t have to just be photographs, why not have a mixture of photos and mirrors. If you like the idea of a photo wall but don’t know where to start, Pinterest has thousands of great examples.
Install a backsplash
If you kitchen is lacking in colour or you simply fancy a change, why not give it a whole new look by adding a backsplash. Perhaps you’re in rented accommodation so can’t have the kitchen you really want, this is a great alternative. If you want to change your kitchen with little effort and expense then adding a backsplash is an easy way to do this. You can buy vinyl backsplash for as little as £10 a roll.
As with any DIY job, only carry it out if you feel confident doing so, otherwise leave it to the professionals. Always ensure when dealing with electrics that you turn off the power and never try to do a job yourself unless you know what you’re doing. If in doubt, give a professional a shout is my motto.
