When I started looking into giving my bathroom a makeover it seemed like a daunting task but when I broke it down into smaller steps things started to become easier and I now have a plan on how I want my bathroom to look – exciting!
Our bathrooms are often overlooked when it comes to decorating and they can quickly become tired and dated. If you’re also looking to give your bathroom the ultimate makeover but you’re not sure where to start then follow the steps below to get started and you’ll have a beautiful bathroom in no time at all.
The first thing you should do when giving your bathroom the ultimate makeover is to decide whether you are going to tile the whole room or if you want to tile around the bath and shower area only, there are pros and cons to both. A fully tiled room looks great and is very modern but it can be expensive. Keeping tiling to the bath and shower area only lets you create a stylish look which doesn’t cost the earth but it does mean you will have to decorate the rest of the room.
A modern look that’s hugely popular at present is white subway tiles with a dark grout, this looks really classy and will look great with any colour scheme. If you like more of a traditional look then you can shop victorian bathroom tiles online and choose tiles which will help you create the bathroom you want.
2. Update your bathroom suite
If your bathroom suite is more suited to the 70’s then it might be time to update it if that’s within your budget. There’s so much more choice now when it comes to bathroom suites, there are p-shaped baths, l-shaped baths, freestanding baths and even square style toilets but don’t let the wide selection put you off.
Draw a plan of your bathroom and where you would like your suite to be positioned, you can then discuss this with the person/company you choose to buy/fit your suite. White is definitely the best choice when it comes to the colour of your suite, it’s modern, fashionable, won’t go out of style and will suit any bathroom no matter your choice of paint/tile colour.
If replacing your bathroom suite isn’t within your budget there is still a way you can update your suite on a budget. You can purchase specialist paint which you can use to transform your old tired suite into the suite of dreams.
This is the easiest and quickest way to drastically change how your bathroom looks and it’s relatively inexpensive depending on the paint you choose. Colour choice is down to personal preference but if you want to create a modern bathroom that focuses on colour from accessories then painting your walls white is a great choice. If you prefer some colour then a blue/turquoise shade is a great option and will help create a calming and relaxing spa style bathroom.
Paint doesn’t have to be restricted to the walls. If you’re painting rather than replacing your bathroom suite then why not go all out and paint your bathroom taps. You could keep it sleek and stylish with some silver paint, go bold with sophisticated and striking black or go for an elegant and vintage look with gold. If you choose to paint your taps just remember to protect the surrounding area.
When it comes to the choice of flooring for your bathroom you have a few options, lino, wood, tiles or stone. Deciding on flooring can be tough, you want something that’s practical, hard-wearing and that will compliment your chosen colour scheme.
Wood flooring is available in a range of colours, is hardwearing and is reasonably priced but ensure you buy flooring which is specifically designed for a bathroom. Lino is another great low-cost option, it’s easy to fit, is available in a huge range of colours/designs and is easy to keep clean and maintain.
If your budget allows for tiles they are a great choice of flooring, they are made to last, look stylish and are available in a whole host of colours/designs to make your bathroom look amazing. If you want the ultimate look of luxury and you’re budget stretches then stone tiles will create a bathroom that looks and feels luxurious.
When it comes to finishing touches your accessories can really make or break a room. They can help add a touch of colour without being overpowering and can create a bit of luxury too.
You could add a few prints to the room, shelves to hold your bath products and don’t forget a mirror. When accessorising your bathroom think towels, shower curtain, bath mat, toothbrush holder, a plant or two, and a lovely wooden bath caddy for a touch of luxury.
