5 Themed Party Ideas

Themed parties are the best! Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, Halloween, or just fancy a party, there are plenty of themes to choose from. The right party theme can tie everything together and ensure your guests think you’re the hostess with the mostest. If you’re planning a party but getting stuck for theme ideas, these five should definitely help!

  1. Pick a Decade

This one is especially good for birthdays, because you can pick the decade you were born in. Alternatively, pick one a little further back with the fashions and music you’ve always loved. It could be a sixties party, complete with monochrome miniskirts. Perhaps a groovy seventies shindig, complete with peace and love. Maybe you want to go fluoro eighties or Brit-Pop nineties. Whichever one you go for, make sure you create a playlist full of songs from that decade. Get everyone to dress up and party like it’s 1999 (or 1989…or 1979…you get the gist).

  1. Great Gatsby

It might be an extremely popular theme, but do you know why? It’s because it’s awesome! The Great Gatsby characters sure knew how to party, so you know it makes sense. I’m thinking plenty of black and gold, flapper girl dresses, and soooo much champagne. You don’t need to have a Jay Gatsby sized budget to pull this off either. There are plenty of ways to DIY this kind of party theme, on a budget.

  1. Las Vegas

There’s something so glitz and glam about Vegas, that it makes so much sense for a party theme. You can make your own Vegas style casino games (or just buy them if it’s too much effort) and hand out fake money. This will keep guests entertained for hours, with very little effort. Make sure you get everyone to dress up in their gladrags; think Bond movies. You can also make casino-style food – poker chip cookies anyone? If you’re not too familiar with casino games, check out these online games for inspiration.

  1. Murder Mystery

This is the theme that will probably take the most time to put together, but it will definitely be worth it. Turn your home into a murder scene and write (or buy) clues. You can then split people up into teams or turn it into an ‘every man for themselves’ type adventure. Murder mysteries are an incredible way to bring people together and will ensure they talk about your party for months to come.

  1. Masquerade Ball

Grab your prom dress and a mask, it’s time to host a masquerade ball. This idea is perfect if you’re looking for something quite formal without all the faff. Plus, it works well for any type of event! Halloween party? Invest in some totally ugly masks. New Year’s Eve? Glam things up with plenty of champagne. It’s simple, it’s not expensive, and it makes a real impact.

I hope these party theme ideas have got the cogs whirring for your next big event! Which one do you think you’ll be trying out? Or do you have any other ideas you’d like to add to the list? Let me know in the comments below!
