5 Top Tips for a Minimal, But Effective, Skincare Routine

Let’s be honest, not all of us have the time or money to spend on dozens of lotions and potions to form the ‘perfect’ skincare routine. However, who wouldn’t want beautifully clear and youthful-looking skin? It’s a quandary.

So, I’ve been chatting with the experts at the Skin Repair Clinic who have revealed their five top tips and must-knows for creating a minimal, but effective, skincare routine. Check them out below:

 1. Know Your Skin Type

Dry, combination, normal, oily, there are products specially formulated for all kinds of skin and using the right product for yours will ensure maximum results. If not, you could find yourself purchasing additional products to correct issues caused by your existing routine.

Check out the below descriptions to discover which type you are:

Dry  You likely have dry skin if it feels tight and/or your skin looks flaky. Dryness is often genetic but can be worsened by dehydration, diet, hormonal changes, and sun damage.

Combination – You likely have combination skin if your t-zone tends to be oilier than the rest of your face and your pores are more visible on your nose or chin, however you also suffer from dryness on occasion.

Oily – You likely have oily skin if it feels greasy or looks shiny after a few hours, and you suffer badly from acne and resulting scarring.

Normal – You likely have normal skin if it feels even and is not too oily or dry.

 2. Make Sure to Use Products in the Right Order

Once you know what skin type you have and have purchased products to suit this, it’s time to learn what order they should be applied in for best results. Here is what we would recommend:

  • Make-up remover
  • Cleanser
  • Exfoliator or toner
  • Any treatment products i.e. retinol or acne creams
  • Moisturiser

  3. Give it Time

If you’re after a quick fix, then a professional treatment will likely be more effective. However, if you have patience, products can provide an affordable alternative.

Some products can take a few weeks to take full effect and your skin can take some time to adjust to a new routine, so practice patience if your skin doesn’t miraculously improve overnight.

If your skin begins to look worse, then it may be worth reducing the frequency or volume of the product you’re using.

 4. Master the Basics

Before you purchase any of the latest products, or simply if you prefer a minimal routine, it’s important to get the basics sorted.

A cleanser is essential for removing the impurities that build up in your pores throughout the day. Use one with a lukewarm water for clean and clear skin!

The second step is to tone. Toner works in a similar way to a cleanser, but is deep-acting, ensuring any residual residue is removed and you don’t look too shiny.

Last, but not least, is moisturising. Seen as a ‘non-negotiable’ by many beauty experts, moisturising puts moisture back into your skin and can help provide a protective layer too.

 5. Bring Back Your Glow with a Professional Treatment

If you would like a professional treatment for faster results, such as those offered by the Skin Repair Clinic, skin rejuvenation could be a great option as it’s non-invasive and an appointment only lasts 90 minutes.

So, how does it work? Well, after a collagen induction treatment, your body will naturally start to regenerate and repair the skin. New collagen and skin cells are formed with enhanced blood flow and over the weeks following the treatment, the effects will become more apparent.

Skin rejuvenation treatments, such as Dermapen or micro-needling, are ideal for wrinkle reduction, tightening skin, reducing the signs of sun damage, improving overall skin tone, reducing large facial pores, and generally leaving the skin looking more vibrant. And after just three treatments you will see marked results.

What does your skincare routine look like? I’d love to hear your advice for simple, yet effective, skin care.
