If you decide to holiday in Colorado you will be able to enjoy a selection of family attractions, skiing, wildlife and you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to where to stay. You can stay in one of the many lovely hotels, you could rent a campervan and travel route 66, or you could stay in one of the gorgeous Colorado mansions where you can enjoy your own space. There are so many beautiful locations to stay where you are surrounded by breathtaking scenery and can see some of Colorados wildlife from your window.
So what does Colorado have to offer?
Colorado offers some of the best skiing opportunities in the United States and arguably the world which makes it a top destination to don your ski’s and hit the slopes. Boasting 28 ski resorts there’s plenty of choices whether you’re a novice or a pro, there’s a ski slope to suit every ability.
You won’t find many other areas with as much natural beauty and unspoilt sights as Colorado. The views are incredible no matter where you are in the state. You can relax by one of the many lakes, marvel at some of the highest sand dunes in America and enjoy one of the most iconic sights in Colorado – the Rocky Mountains. Other must-see sights include Garden Of Gods, Mount Evans, Seven Falls and Pike Peaks among many others.
If you thought the beautiful scenery in Colorado couldn’t get any better then think again. Whilst taking in the breathtaking views you can also enjoy the sights and sounds of some of Colorado’s wildlife including elk, bald eagles, moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Colorado is home to 8 Wildlife Refuges, 307 State Wildlife Areas, 12 National Parks, 41 Colorado State Parks and millions of acres of National Forest, there’s no shortage of places you can see native animals in their natural habitat.
One of the things that draws people to Colorado is the fact it gets around 300 days of sunshine a year which makes it the perfect destination if you’re a sunseeker. With sunshine, mild temperatures and record snowfall, Colorado is a destination that won’t disappoint no matter what time of year you choose to visit. The first snowfall usually arrives in September (perfect for those looking to enjoy some skiing) but there can be snowfall somewhere in the state most months of the year.
If you enjoy the great outdoors, lots of fresh air and natural beauty then Colorado is the destination for you. As well as skiing and snowboarding you can head outdoors and hike across some of the most beautiful areas in America. If you don’t fancy walking you could saddle up and enjoy a bike ride or even see the sights on horseback. There are so many ways to take in the sights and sounds of Colorado.
With over 200 breweries in Colorado, it’s safe to say that they know their ale, they even host the annual Great American Beer Festival which takes place every Autumn. If you’re partial to the odd beer or two why not try the best that Colorado has to offer and explore the breweries by going on a few tours and tasting sessions.
If you fancy a change of pace from the outdoor adventures Colorado has to offer then why not head into one of the vibrant cities. Denver is the capital of Colorado and a hub of activity, it’s a great city to visit for art lovers, you can also enjoy live sporting events and take some time out to go shopping. If you want to enjoy mountain views and take time out to go hiking then Colorado Spring is a great destination to explore and perfect for the whole family. If you enjoy history then the town of Breckenridge should be on your list of places to visit, a historic mining town with over 250 buildings listed on the National Historic Register it’s a step back in time.
Colorado has a lot to offer when it comes to the art scene, you can head into Denver where you can visit the Denver Art Museum. there you can see the famous collection of Native American art and enjoy the contemporary art which is located inside a building which in itself is a work of art. The museum offers free general admission on the first Saturday of each month and is free for under 18’s which makes it a great choice for the whole family.
Other sites to visit include The Colorado Photographic Arts Center, Kirkland Museum and The Clyfford Still Museum.
Prior to learning all about Colorado, it wasn’t on my radar for a holiday but it’s somewhere I would definitely take the time out the explore if I was in America.
