Do you eat out often?
I was recently invited to take part in a blogger cook off challenge by Leeds Building Society. The Kick My Habits research found that the average Briton spends £17.34 a week eating out. I was challenge to make a delicious meal in for £10 which is a saving of £7.34 a week and over the year a huge saving of £382. To put that into perspective £382 a year would pay my electricity bill for 6 months!
The first thing I had to do was decide what meal I was going to make. I wanted to try and replicate a meal out that we would usually have so I decided to recreate a meal at Nando’s.
What I bought:
- Chicken £3
- Wraps £1
- Nando’s Medium Peri Peri sauce £0.99
- Nando’s Chip Salt £1.79
- Chips £1
- Brownie mix £1.10
- Ice cream £0.89
Total = £9.77
The meal was really easy to make. It was simply a case of cutting the chicken into strips and marinating it for 1-2 hours in the Peri Peri sauce then cooking the chips. 5 minutes before the chips are ready you can start cooking the chicken in the frying pan, put the chicken into the wraps when it’s cooked then put the chips on the plate and sprinkle with the Nando’s chip salt. Mmmmm delicious!
I thought £10 for the meal and desert was really good value compared to what we would spend on a meal out and it fed 3 of us. I will definitely be making it again but might get the hotter sauce and add some salad on the side it would be a perfect lunch or dinner in Summer with some salad. It was easy to make, delicious and I managed to save money. If you eat out give it a try and see if you can recreate your favourite restaurant meal at home.
