Castello the perfect Christmas cheese

Cheese is a big part of our Christmas day so when I was asked if we would like to try some items from the Castello cheese range I was really looking forward to trying them. On Christmas day, as has been tradition for as long as I can remember we have cheese and crackers for lunch and then have Christmas dinner later in the day.

When the cheese samples arrived I found they had been wrapped in Christmas paper and put inside a personalised Christmas stocking which was lovely and Maxx thoroughly enjoyed helping me open them. He also kept insisting he should get to keep the stocking as he liked it.

We received 5 different cheeses to try; Ticklers extra mature cheddar cheese,  Creamy White, Creamy Blue, Danish Blue and Pineapple Halo.

We buy a lot of cheese whether it be cheese spread for sandwiches, soft cheese or cheddar for crackers we are definitely a house of cheese lovers. The first cheese we tried was the Tickler extra mature cheddar cheese. We hadn’t tried it before so weren’t sure how it would taste compared to our normal cheese but I’m pleased to say it is delicious and we all really enjoyed it. The cheese isn’t too crumbly so is perfect for slicing, grating or cubing and it cooks really well too, our pasta bake and pizzas tasted lovely using the Tickler extra mature cheddar. The cheese has a lovely tangy mature cheddar taste that we have all come to love and Maxx really enjoyed it too.

The Creamy White, Creamy Blue and Danish Blue are all types of cheese we normally have on Christmas day with crackers so I was looking forward to trying those to see if they would be a good choice for this year. The Creamy White is a strong smelling cheese which might put some people off but it tastes delicious. It is thick & creamy – perfect for having on crackers and the flavour becomes stronger with age. The Creamy Blue cheese has a lovely tangy taste and is smooth & creamy, a really nice cheese that we all enjoyed. The Danish Blue has a very strong flavour which I loved, it would make a great cheese for Christmas day with crackers or for crumbling with a salad.

I have to confess I’m not the most adventurous person when it comes to food so I wasn’t sure what I would think of the Pineapple Halo as I’ve never tried anything like it before. I decided to try it on crackers when I was tasting the other cheeses and was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. The cheese is lovely and creamy, the pineapple gives it a lovely sweet flavour and there is the crunch from the almonds, overall it’s a lovely cheese which I’m sure will be making an appearance on many cheese boards this Christmas.

We all really enjoyed the different flavours of cheese and will definitely be adding some Castello cheese to our Christmas cheese list this year. You can view the full range of Castello products on the website here.

Castello is not a brand I have tried as yet. Do like cheese. They seem to have sent you a good variety of samples. Whilst the packaging seems to have been nice, thoughtful and festive.
