Good Habits To Practice Before The New Year


Now that we are approaching the end of the year it is often a time where we enjoy our last hurrahs before we try and make amends and make good habits in January, but why not start right away and make a difference before the festive season? November and early December is a great time for you to make headway on those New Year’s resolutions and it is a good thing for you to do to get ahead and feel healthier by the time the new year rolls around again. Here are just some of the good habits which you could introduce into your life this year to make a difference before 2019.

     1. Wake up earlier

First of all; we know it’s hard. Waking up early in the week when the sky is dark and grey is difficult and it can often be a case of us waiting until the last possible minute to leave the comfort of our bed and go to work. However, if you want to feel healthier and happier in life, waking up earlier and making a change to your morning routine is exactly what you need. If you can wake up 30 minutes earlier in the morning you’ll have time to really wake for up for day and enjoy your coffee, shower and makeup routine. You’ll leave the house in a better mood because you will be ready for the day.

  1. Drink herbal tea

Caffeine is something which most of us come into contact with in one way or another and it can either be a lovely morning pick me up or a vice we can’t live without. Ideally, you want to cut down on caffeine and a great way to do this is to replace your after lunch brew with herbal tea instead. There are so many herbal teas with different health benefits and flavours so have some fun researching here  and choose a couple to try. You’ll still have the comfort of a hot drink just without the caffeine.

  1. Exercise in the morning

Motivating ourselves to exercise can be one of the most difficult things to do of all and it can be a massive challenge to overcome each day. If you need some help working out, do it as soon as you get out of bed! In the morning you can’t think too much and this makes it the ideal time to roll out from under the covers and do some pushups. It only has to take 10 minutes and it can make all the difference.

  1. Eat a big breakfast

Never skip breakfast! It doesn’t matter whether you aren’t hungry in the morning, your body needs a good healthy breakfast to kickstart it for the day and give you energy. You can benefit massively from making breakfast your biggest meal of the day and snacking by the time it comes to dinner. A big nutritious breakfast could involve eggs, avocado, bacon and toast and ideally some spinach for a punch of vitamins. A breakfast like this each morning will set your body up for a great day and it will be a good decision for you to make.

  1. Make a To-do list the night before

The worst thing you can do if you are a busy person and you are always trying to juggle everything at once is to wait until the morning to write your to-do list. It is better to write it the night before because it will allow you to plan ahead and get going right away the next day without wasting time. You’ll be so much more productive and it can really help your career and personal life.

  1. Stomp out the bad habits

If you want to employ better habits into your life one of the things you will want to do is stomp out the bad ones. There are many bad habits which we should rid ourselves of and the most popular have to be drinking and smoking. If you are a smoker, you don’t have to go cold turkey right away to quit, you can use a company like to buy e-cigarettes which will allow you to cut down on your real cigarettes and slowly be able to live without them all together. If you can work to quit smoking or drinking this can be a really great thing for your health.

  1. Eat smaller portions

Most of us eat too much. The issue when it comes to portion control is that a lot of us simply don’t know what constitutes as one single portion. If you feel like you need help reducing your portion sizes, go out this weekend and buy some smaller plates. These smaller plates can be filled in exactly the same way you would a larger one but they will be immediately smaller portions. It is a good way to trick the brain and cut down on what you are eating each day.

  1. Take some me time

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to take time out for yourself every so often. The amount of times people get stressed and overloaded because they just didn’t take a break is crazy and it can be really dangerous for your body and your mental state. Make sure that at least once a month you take a day which is just for you and no one else. Relax and do what you enjoy… and it that involves sitting in front of the TV all day that’s fine! You need it and you deserve it.

  1. Spend time with family

There is nothing more important in life than family, and spending more time with your family is definitely a good habit to introduce to your life before the end of the year. If you don’t ever seem to have enough time for your loved ones this can damage your relationship with them and you may drift apart as the years go on. Make time at least once a month to see your parents and other family because this can strengthen your bond with them for a whole lifetime.

  1. Get moving

Exercise is one of those parts of life which no one can truly say they enjoy, but if you want to stay fit and healthy for a long life you need to make sure that you get up and moving for at least a small time each and every day. Think about going for a walk in the park, doing 20-30 minutes of exercise in the house or trying a sport. You don’t have to do too much and it will always be a good thing for your body and your mind.

  1. Pursue a new hobby

Hobbies can be a really wonderful thing to have, and they can give us something more to focus on and have fun with than simply going to work, coming home and sleeping in our beds. A hobby can be a good way to spend your time and it can also be a really great way to learn new skills. If you can take up a hobby in your spare time it can be a really great thing to do and it will give you something to look forward to every day when you leave work.

  1. Have a checkup

Health is far too important to ignore and if you really want to make sure that you live a happy and healthy life, you can’t skip your checkup! Now, go and make an appointment before December so you can have a clean bill of health before Christmas.
