How to make realistic fake blood

Halloween isn’t complete without a bit of fake blood! Whether you’re a vampire, zombie or crazed clown fake blood is always a great finishing touch to an outfit. Well don’t go out and buy fake blood you can make your own edible fake blood at home with two simple ingredients.

You will need:

  • Golden syrup
  • Red food colouring
  • A bowl

Believe it or not golden syrup is a great consistency for fake blood and takes on the colouring really well. I would suggest getting red colouring paste (I used a brand of paste called Sugarflaire in the colour Paprika/Flesh).

To start put 2/3 tablespoons of golden syrup into a bowl. You don’t need a huge amount of food colouring paste, I used a toothpick and put a little bit on the end. When you drop the colouring into the syrup and start stirring you will see the syrup changing colour, add the colouring a little bit at a time until you have the desired blood red colour.

When you are happy with the colour you can start using your fake blood to create realistic looking wounds or to add the finishing touch to your Halloween look. The blood is perfect for using around the mouth or for any mouth inspired wounds as it’s edible and even tastes nice!

I accidentally got a few drops of the blood on Maxx’s white collar thankfully it came right out with a  bit of soap and warm water but do be careful as the colouring can stain surfaces and clothing etc.
