When you’re a car owner, you get used to giving your vehicle a routine checkup when it’s booked in for a MOT. It might be the law that we have to do that, but doesn’t it make you wonder why you take such good care of your vehicle and not other areas of your life? It may seem like all areas of your life are running well, but without a routine checkup, how can you really be sure?

So, it might be time that you scheduled in inaugural checkups for every year of your life. Whether you need to give the area a quick once over or detox it completely, you might find that you get a better quality of life, just by taking better care!

You’ve probably never realised it before, but we don’t always pay enough attention to our energy levels. They can be terrible from time to time, but we right it off as tiredness of being busy with work. When in reality, we need to listen more. If you’re thinking about making any healthy resolutions this year, focus them on your energy levels. Healthy habits like drinking more water, exercising and sleeping well can all contribute to increased energy.

Sometimes, we tend to ignore our finances. Whether we’re burying our heads or just going about our daily business, we don’t give them as much attention as we should. When it comes to a financial MOT, you’re going to want to work out where you stand with your money. Do you need to save more, spend less or pay off any debts? Maybe you want to save for something special like a trip or wedding? If that’s the case, you’re going to want to kickstart your finances with an action plan.

It’s crazy how little care we give to our bodies. We do our best to eat well and exercise, but that isn’t all there is to it. We head to the doctors when we fear something is wrong, but we also tend to ignore a lot of issues, shrugging them off as nothing important. But, it might be the time that you had a good old-fashioned check up or finally book in for that orthopaedic treatment you’ve been putting off.

When it comes to our careers, we can often go about our daily tasks without a second thought. If we’re bad at giving our bodies a regular MOT, then what are we like with our jobs? Appalling is probably the right word. Right now, you need to figure out how you’re doing and assess your situation. Do you want a career change or do you need to work harder on your goals to give your career a much-needed refresh?

Having a healthy mind can be just as important as having a healthy body. We often forget to look after ourselves when it comes to mental health. But stress can be a killer, so it’s important to take time out and work out what you need to relax in life. It’s the same with our relationships. Sometimes, you just need a good MOT to set yourself straight again.

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions as such but I do think it is a good time of year to think about all areas of your life and identify a few small, achievable targets to improve your well-being 🙂
