My travel bucket list is never ending, I seem to add a new destination, idea or excursion to it every day – what can I say, I love to explore. Somewhere I have always wanted to visit is India, it’s so vibrant, culturally rich and the food looks incredible – I love everything about it.
I already have a list of places in India I would visit and I’m determined to make a trip there a reality sooner rather than later. I’m not sure if I would plan the trip myself or if I would book a tour to India to take the stress out of the planning and be able to take more of a back seat and enjoy myself, there are pros and cons to both ways. Whether I booked a tour or arranged everything myself there are a lot of sights I would love to see and places I would love to visit, you can see my top 5 must see destinations in India below.
I’m not sure there’s a more beautiful building in all of the world, it’s so beautiful and grand. It’s so iconic and would be my first stop on a trip to India, the detail of the building looks incredible and I think you have to see it in person to truly appreciate the beauty of it. Taj Mahal translates to “Crown of the Palace” and it’s certainly the jewel in India’s crown when it comes to beauty and architecture.
Although the Ganges is highly polluted I would love to visit this iconic area of India, there was a plan to clean up the river (Ganga Action Plan) but sadly that hasn’t been successful so far. Not only is the river home to an abundance of animals, it’s a hub of activity and also holds religious importance.
Kanha National Park
Also known as Kanha Tiger Reserve, Kanha National park is the largest national park in Madhya Pradesh and is one of the main tiger reserves in India. The park is home to a large number of Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, the sloth bear, barasingha and Indian wild dogs, it’s also home to over 1000 species of flowering plants, a truly beautiful place to visit where you can see animals in their natural surrounding. As a huge animal lover, this is high on my list of places to visit, I would love to see such beautiful animals in their natural surrounding.
I wouldn’t spend a whole holiday on the beach but a day trip to one of Goa’s stunning beaches would definitely be on the cards during a trip to India. Goa’s coastline stretches along the Arabian sea and boasts white sandy beaches, turquoise seas and sunshine galore, it sounds like my idea of heaven.
Meenakshi Amman Temple
This has to be one of the most beautiful temples in the world. The colours, the architecture, the grandeur, it’s a thing of beauty and I would love to see it in person to fully appreciate it. It’s a historic Hindu temple, it’s dedicated to Meenakshi, a form of Parvati and her consort, Sundareshwar. It’s located at the center of the ancient temple city of Madurai and would be an amazing destination to visit for the day or even a few days since there’s so much to take in and see.
I would love to know if you have visited India and if so where your favourite destination was?
