Up until recently I hadn’t ventured into the world of tablets. Don’t get me wrong I think they’re great and I have tried a lot of different brands at family and friend’s houses I just haven’t bought one myself – although I have been tempted. I’m a bit of a bargain hunter and to be honest I wasn’t sure if it was something I would use or if it would end up gathering dust in the corner so I wasn’t prepared to spend money buying something I might not use.
Recently that all changed and I became the proud owner of the Gigaset QV830 tablet. I was contacted by Gigaset who asked if I would like to try their new tablet and let you all know what it’s like. I was really looking forward to trying it to see how it compared to other tablets on the market and also to see if it would be something I would use regularly or not.
The QV830 tablet* is Gigasets first venture into the world of tablets so I wasn’t sure what to expect and went into it with an open mind. When it arrived I couldn’t wait to get it out and see what it had to offer, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it arrived with some charge so I was able to try it out straight away. There’s nothing worse than having to wait 8 hours for your new gadget to charge before you can try it out!
On starting the tablet for the first time it guides you through the set-up process step by step, so whether you’re a pro with technology or a novice you should have it up and running quickly. I managed to set it up and connect to the internet in a matter of minutes which was great. There are 38 pre-installed apps which include the usual Google apps and tools. There are over 1 million paid for and free Apps and games available which can easily be downloaded from the Android App Store or the Google Play Store, both of which are pre-installed making getting started hassle free.
The tablet has an 8″ scratch resistant, 5-point multi touch screen which is highly responsive. The screen resolution is 1024 x 768 with a pixel density of 160, the screen is great for watching films, browsing the internet and playing games. I also found the sound quality to be good and had no problems watching films and listening to music. As with most tablets you can swipe, tap and pinch to navigate to different areas with ease.
A sleek black anodised aluminium rear casing and plastic silver detailing means the tablet doesn’t disappoint in the looks department. The buttons and sockets are all located at the top of the tablet on the silver trim. They include a volume button, a power button, a micro usb slot, a headset socket and a microSD slot. The tablet is perfect for life on the go thanks to it’s compact size and portable design.
The QV830 comes with 8GB of storage, if you’re like me and enjoy taking photographs or filling your tablet with apps then you’ll be pleased to know there is also a 32gb microSD card slot that lets you expand the memory.
The tablet uses the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. If you’re familiar with the android operating system you will have no problems using the tablet, if you’re new to the android market then don’t panic as the tablet is designed to be user friendly and easy to navigate. It took me a couple of days to get to grips with where everything was but now I can find things I want in a matter of seconds.
There’s a front and rear camera which lets you take photographs and make video calls. The rear camera is 5 megapixels and the front camera is 1.2 megapixels – these are the same specifications as the ipad mini.
Another impressive feature the tablet boasts is the 8 hour batter life, this makes it the perfect tablet for taking out and about on long car journeys, holidays or for using at work. What’s more when the battery does run down it only takes 4 hours to fully charge.
The Gigaset QV830 is perfect for the workplace with it’s elegant design, good battery life and functionality. It is also a great tablet for the whole family thanks to the ability to set up multiple user profiles. Each user can have their own apps, files, widgets and each user can also personalise their homepage. There are also parental control features, including being able to add content and time restrictions.
Overall I am highly impressed with the Gigaset QV830 tablet, it is a budget tablet that doesn’t scrimp on features! It wouldn’t look out of place next to the ipad mini with it’s stylish design and has everything you would expect a top of the range device to have but at a fraction of the price.
I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I have found myself reaching for the tablet. I have been using it at night in bed, during the day to check emails, for browsing the internet, for watching films, listen to music and my nephew has even talked me in to downloading some games (not that I needed much convincing!). If you’re in the market for a tablet for yourself or as a Christmas gift take a look at the Gigaset QV830, you won’t be disappointed. It is the perfect introduction to the world of tablets, what’s more you can buy the Gigaset tablet from Curry’s for just £69.
