Here we go again…
I hate to admit it but I have actually lost count of how many times I have started Slimming World. I always start with the best of intentions, an open mind and the hope of losing weight but I struggle with willpower and slowly but surely each attempt was pushed aside without a backwards glance. I’m my own worst enemy at times and have self-sabotage down to a fine art. You can read my previous haphazard attempts here.
With the start of the new year, I began thinking about what I wanted from 2018 and high up on the list from years gone by was to lose weight. I didn’t start my journey in January because in all honesty, I wasn’t ready to commit myself to it fully and I didn’t want another failed Slimming World attempt to my name so I waited until I felt ready. When February began I finally felt ready to start planning, writing meal plans, shopping for essentials and making sure I know the ins and outs correctly.
I officially started my Slimming World journey of 2018 on Monday the 19th of February which means I have completed my first week and I’m now in week two, so far so good. I’m not sure how to explain it and I know I’m only a week in but things feel ‘different’, I know what to expect, I’m prepared with recipes, healthy food and support and I REALLY want to reach my target. I want to enjoy clothes shopping, have a healthier lifestyle and attitude to food and feel more comfortable with my body and weight.
What I have loved…
I have loved getting a bit more adventurous in the kitchen and trying new meals. I have also enjoyed planning my meals and feeling more prepared which means I haven’t been grabbing unhealthy snacks – something that used to happen a lot.
What I have found hard…
The only thing that really comes to mind is the time it takes to prepare and cook meals. The key to Slimming World is cooking everything from scratch which is great and so much healthier but it can be time-consuming. I have been cooking bigger portions so I can freeze some to take out of the freezer on days when I’m busy and need something quick to enjoy. My favourites for batch cooking are chilli, beef casserole and sausage casserole, they are all really easy to make and really filling.
Slimming World Favourites
I love finding new recipes, products and ideas that can help me so each week I will be sharing the recipes, products and ideas that I’m loving in the hope that it might help you if you’re also following Slimming World.
Weight Watcher wrap pizzas – If you’re on Slimming World and you think pizza is off the menu then think again! Making a Slimming World friendly pizza is quick and easy! Simply take a Weight Watchers wrap (Hex B) and place it under the grill until crispy (around 10 minutes on medium turning occasionally), spread passata (you could add herbs & garlic) over your pizza, add your favourite toppings, cheese (Hex A), sweetcorn, chicken etc and place under the grill until the cheese is melted. It’s delicious and definitely hits the spot when a pizza craving strikes.
Golden syrup Weetabix – I have to admit that I find breakfast the most difficult meal, I struggle to find a variety of things I will enjoy and end up sticking to the same meals over and over. On mornings when I don’t have much time or when I’m craving cereal I have two golden syrup Weetabix (Hex B) and milk (Hex A), they’re delicious and you don’t need to use any sugar or sweetener on them because they’re already really sweet. The only downside is that you use your Hex A and your Hex B in one go but I’m okay with doing that occasionally.
ASDA No Added Sugar Strawberry Squash – I absolutely loved strawberry Ribena but it’s something I no longer drink because of the high sugar content, I love the taste just not to calories. When I was shopping at ASDA recently I decided to try their strawberry squash and WOW! It tastes so much like strawberry Ribena but the calories are night and day. Strawberry Ribena has 113 calories per 250ml service while the ASDA strawberry squash has just 4 calories per 250ml serving – WIN!
LOSS, GAIN OR MAINTAIN?
So the big question, have I lost, gained or maintained? On week one my result was…
I was so shocked when I stepped on the scales and saw the reading of -6lbs. In the past when I have tried Slimming World my weight loss, even on week one was small at 2-3 lbs maximum, so to lose 6lbs in my first week is amazing and a huge motivation to keep going.
I’m being realistic and I know I can’t expect that type of result every week, things will inevitably slow down and settle toa steady loss and I’m okay with that. Even if I lose 1lb a week I will reach my weight loss target this year so I just need to keep reminding myself of that, I certainly didn’t put all the weight on in a month or two so I don’t’ expect to lose it quickly.
