*This post is an advertised collaboration with Boots but all thoughts are my own
We’re now a week into summer and things are beginning to hot up! I love summer because it means swapping boots for sandals and trousers for skirts, everything just feels so much nicer when the sun is shining. As well as swapping clothes, I will be changing my skincare and makeup routine to make sure my skin is getting everything it needs during the warmer months.
Recently one of my favourite high street stores Boots got in touch to ask me to share how I will be switching things up for summer in the skincare and makeup department. With festivals, holidays and lots of days out, the summer months are usually full of fun events, glitter makeup and days at the beach – I don’t know about you but I can’t wait! When the weather heats up I tend to keep my makeup light and more natural.
For me, skincare is the most important thing and where I spend the most money when it comes to makeup and skincare. My skin is on the dry side and during winter I really struggle to keep it hydrated and moisturised, thankfully, during the summer months my skin does improve but it still has a tendency to be dry which means a good moisturiser is essential. Now that summer has hit I will be using the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright™ Face Primer as a standalone product, it creates a dewy look which makes it perfect for the summer months and it can be worn alone or under makeup. Not to mention it smells amazing!
Like a lot of people, I love having a tan during the summer months but over the last few years I have been burnt in the sun and that’s something I don’t want to happen this year. For that reason, I will be extra careful to protect my skin and will be using the St.Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse to give me a lovely glow without the risk of damaging my skin. I was really surprised by how easy and quick the application was, the results are fantastic and I’m looking forward to looking tanned throughout summer.
Eyes can definitely set off a whole look, personally, I love a rose gold smokey eye during the summer it’s such a natural look which really compliments a tan and goes with almost any outfit! I have been using the e.l.f. Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette and I love the results it gives! The colours are well pigmented and there isn’t a lot of fallout either. One issue I do struggle with when it comes to eyes is my eyebrows, they have a mind of their own and are more distant cousins than twins! Luckily I have found a great product which should help tame my unruly brows this summer – Browcote Waterproof Brow Gel. I will be pairing this product with the lovely No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara, I hadn’t tried a No7 mascara previously and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The wand is really good, it helps separate and lift lashes, but for me, the fact the product is waterproof makes it a winner! Nobody wants panda eyes coming out of the pool.
Up until recently, I hadn’t tried any Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick products but wow am I converted! The summer months can be drying on my lips but so far the Max Factor Elixir lipstick (I chose the colour Pink Brandy) has been really moisturising and the colour is really long lasting too. I didn’t realise it at the time but the colour is also a great match for the Essie nail varnish which was a happy coincidence. I’m loving the lipstick and will be heading to town soon to purchase the nude colour.
During the colder months, I don’t often paint my nails but when it comes to summer I love wearing bright colours to match my outfits. I normally paint my nails using some gel colours which I do myself at home but I was drawn to this lovely Essie Sunday Funday Pink Coral Shimmer Nail Polish the colour is gorgeous and the subtle shimmer makes it the perfect summer nail colour.
I’ll be honest and say that I’m pretty set in my ways when it comes to perfume, I love the whole Marc Jacobs Daisy range and have been wearing a variety of those perfumes for the last couple of years. During the winter I enjoy wearing the classic Daisy perfume and during the summer I usually opt for the lighter Daisy So Fresh which is a lovely floral scent.
How will you be changing your skincare and makeup routine this summer?
